BirdLife Northern Gauteng is excited to be hosting well-known bird expert, illustrator and guide, Geoff Lockwood, for a two day theoretical course on Water birds of Southern Africa.

Water birds can be difficult to identify at various stages during the year and Geoff will provide us with valuable information and tips on what to observe in order to make a positive identification.  Feeding patterns, habits, habitats, plumage and locations are all mysteries that will be uncovered over the two day course.

Geoff Lockwood (background):
Geoff started his career as a bird illustrator and painter.  His first book – Garden Birds of Southern Africa – was published in 1981.  He made significant contributions to the illustrations for the 5th and 6th editions of Robert’s Birds of Southern Africa and his second book has been published – Birding with Sappi and Geoff Lockwood.

Geoff’s passion for birds is obvious during his talks and courses that he presents with great enthusiasm.  He has many years of experience giving lectures and guiding bird tours across the region with special focus on environmental education programmes at Delta Park in Johannesburg.
