Hi there everyone,
As part of this year's celebration of 60 Years of Birding in Pretoria, BirdLife Northern Gauteng is staging a gala dinner on Friday 26th October. This will be a prestigious event with a great programme of activities in order to be able to celebrate the occasion in style. Keynote speakers Warwick Tarboton and Geoff Lockwood will be in attendance and the prize-giving for our photographic competition and our superb raffle (just check out the prizes!) will take place.

Hi there everyone,
Due to extensive fire damage to the vlei area, Rob will not be able to take us on the Grass Owl outing. This is unfortunately one of the hazards of winter birding in Gauteng... He has instead, planned an alternative outing to Buffeldrif - details below. Rob does prefer to take smaller groups through the conservancy to ensure better bird visibility for everyone in the group so please can you RSVP with Rita on

Hey there everyone,
Great news. We have managed to secure the expert services of Burger and Niel Cillié for next week Thursday evening to take us through the do's and don'ts of DSLR photography. The cost for the evening is only R100 and refreshments will be served. The course will be presented in both Afrikaans and English - if you don't understand Afrikaans at all, you might struggle a bit.

I hope you all had a good Christmas and are making good use of the holidays to get out into the wilderness and spot some new birds. The latest programme is ready but we haven't been able to post it yet so here is a quick taste of what is coming up in January. I will also be updating our club website with the full January to April 2012 programme later today.

Hey there everyone,
I awoke to the sound of rain this morning - what a pleasure. I was sure the robin was singing a little louder - I know the hadedas were enjoying it - grrrr...
I want to remind you of our year end celebrations coming up on Saturday 3rd of December. We have a lovely day arranged with an early morning bird walk led by Rob Geddes while the ringers get their nets up so that you can get up close and personal with the birds. We're having a brunch bring-and-braai starting at 10am so that we can make the most of the day and still have time to do some Christmas shopping in the late afternoon. You need to bring all your munchies along for the braai - we'll supply pap and some bubbly but we need to know if you're coming along so that we can make sure we have enough of everything.
